Description:

Diarostad is a product for the symptomatic treatment of diarrhea, unless you have been designated a different treatment.

Continued use requires medical supervision.

For children of 8 to 12 years of age a prescription is required before use.

Diarostad should not be used in:

- Hypersensitivity to loperamide or any of the excipients;

- Patients who should avoid delay in the intestinal peristalsis (bloating, constipation, ileus);

- Children up to 8 years of age.

In children under the age of 2 years no loperamide-containing medicines should be used.

For children of 2 to 8 years of age, the dose is calculated per kg/body weight and there are other more suitable dosage forms;

Diarostad should not be used in:

- Patients with diarrhea associated with high temperature and / or blood in the stool;

- Patients with diarrhea, occurring during or after antibiotic therapy (antibiotic-associated colitis);

- Patients with an acute attack of ulcerative colitis;

Patients with liver problems, current or past, can take Diarostad only after consulting a doctor, because the decomposition of loperamide in these patients may be delayed.

The safety of loperamide during pregnancy and lactation has not been established. Loperamide is secreted in breast milk. The use of loperamide during pregnancy and lactation is not recommended.

Children under 2 years of age should not take loperamide-containing medicines.

For children of 2 to 8 years of age, the dose should be calculated according to weight. This formulation of Diarostad is not suitable for this age group. For this age group, there are other more suitable dosage forms (oral drops).

Diarostad can rarely cause headaches, tiredness, lethargy, abdominal cramps, nausea, dry mouth and skin rash.

There are isolated cases of exanthema of the skin, urticaria, angioneurotic edema, and isolated cases of anaphylaxis (hypersensitivity) reactions. Described are also isolated cases of ilues and development of toxic megacolon (abnormal distension of the colon, as a complication of chronic inflammatory bowel disease).

How to use:

Adults:

The starting dose for acute diarrhea is 2 capsules DIAROSTAD (equivalent to 4 mg loperamide hydrochloride) followed by 1 capsule (equivalent to 2 mg loperamide hydrochloride) after each bowel movement of loose stools.

Must not exceed the maximum daily dose of 8 capsules DIAROSTAD. In chronic diarrhea: 2 capsules DIAROSTAD (equivalent to 4 mg loperamide hydrochloride) daily.

The capsules should be swallowed whole with some water.

If acute diarrhea lasts more than 48 hours after initiation of therapy, taking Diarostad should be discontinued and medical help should be sought. Diarostad should not be used for more than four weeks without medical supervision.

Overdose:

Symptoms of overdose with Diarostad are constipation (constipation), ileus (bowel obstruction) and toxicity of the central nervous system, convulsions, lethargy, drowsiness, involuntary limb movements (choreoathetosis), ataxia or respiratory depression. If after an overdose you develop any of these symptoms, seek immediate medical attention.

Ingredients:

Each capsule contains the active ingredient loperamide hydrochloride 2 mg and the following excipients: gelatin, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate, corn starch, talc, colorants E104, E132, E171, E172.
