WHAT IS NEOPHOLIC МЕТА?

NEOPHOLIC META are orange tablets that contain 400 μg (0.4 mg) of methylated folic acid (LMethylfolate), packaged in 30-tablet blisters.

L-Methylfolate is the active form of folic acid which is involved in the biosynthesis of amino acids and the nucleotide bases in DNA and RNA. Folic acid has a key role in the formation and development of cells in the human body, as well as of vital structures during its embryonic development. This mostly concerns the embryo’s neural tube, which will later differentiate into the spinal cord and the brain.

Folic acid also plays a very important role in the formation and metabolism of erythrocytes (red blood cells), which supply oxygen and energy to all tissues and organs of the body.

Folic acid in the body functions only after being converted to L-Methylfolate. Until then, it is inactive and has no biological effect. The transformation of folic acid into L-Methylfolate is a complex and multiphase process which cannot be completed in 12% of pregnant women due to a genetic enzymatic defect.

Comparison of NEOPHOLIC META and folic acid in terms of their metabolisation

In women who lack the enzyme that enables the transformation of folic acid into L-Methylfolate, folic acid (obtained either through the diet or through supplementation) does not generate the necessary beneficial effect on the normal progress of pregnancy. In these women, the active form of folic acid, L-Methylfolate, must be ingested through dietary supplementation.

NEOPHOLIC Meta is a dietary supplement intended for pregnant women and women planning to get pregnant who have an increased need of folic acid in its active form.

The correct and regular intake of NEOPHOLIC META facilitates the normal progress of pregnancy, the formation of a healthy and proper neural tube of the fetus, and the adequate development of the baby’s tissues and organs.

NEOPHOLIC META is beneficial not only for the newborn baby, but also for the mother’s health by:

Supporting the production of blood and blood cells in the female body. (This process is of paramount importance during pregnancy when the needs of the body are much higher.)

Supporting the function of the immune system.

Supporting physiological processes in the body and reducing the feeling of fatigue and weakness.

BEFORE TAKING NEOPHOLIC META

Do not take NEOPHOLIC META if:

You have had an allergic reaction to any of the tablet ingredients.

Consult your doctor in the following cases:

You were born with spina bifida.

You have had a previous pathological pregnancy resulting in spina bifida or another congenital defect of your baby’s neural tube.

You are suffering from epilepsy treated with phenobarbital, phenytoin, or primidone.

You are taking medications which suppress the metabolisation of folic acid, such as methotrexate and trimethoprim, or which decrease its absorption in the gastrointestinal tract, such as contraceptives or anticonvulsants.

You have undergone surgery entailing small bowel resection.

These conditions require the intake of higher doses of L-Methylfolate.

HOW SHOULD NEOPHOLIC META BE TAKEN?

In international practice, a dose of 400 μg (0.4 mg) of folic acid has been established as the adequate daily dose that is sufficient to make up for pregnant women’s increased requirements of folic acid in its active form, L-Methylfolate.

Unless your doctor has recommended otherwise, take 1 tablet of NEOPHOLIC META daily.

Do not miss your daily dose. To avoid missing your daily dose, make the intake of NEOPHOLIC META a part of your daily routine.

WHEN TO START?

With a view to ensuring the normal progress of pregnancy and reducing the risk of spina bifida in babies, it is recommended that NEOPHOLIC META is taken at least one month before getting pregnant and continued during the first three months of the pregnancy. In the case of an unintended pregnancy, start taking NEOPHOLIC META as soon as you have found out that you are pregnant. NEOPHOLIC META is absorbed faster than the regular folic acid and almost immediately reaches the levels at which it successfully functions so as to reduce the risk of spina bifida. It is therefore recommended to start taking NEOPHOLIC META in cases of desired pregnancy when no folic acid was taken before conception.

SOMETHING VERY IMPORTANT YOU NEED TO KNOW

As with folic acid, L-Methylfolate is a very unstable chemical compound which, once exposed to external influences, quickly loses its biochemical activity and properties. If the tablets are in a bottle or in bulk, the L-Methylfolate molecule disintegrates into inactive ingredients due to environmental factors such as heat, light, air, and ultraviolet light. This shortens the shelf-life of tablets so that it does not exceed two months. When the tablets are in a blister, each tablet is continuously isolated from external influences. In this condition, the folic acid shelf-life increases to up to 1 year. For extra protection, NEOPHOLIC META tablets are packaged in a blister with non-transparent white foil, which further blocks the destructive effect of sunlight.

NEOPHOLIC МЕТА ENSURES

Adequate folate levels in the mother’s body;

Activity of the substance throughout the entire shelf-life;

The precise dose recommended on the basis of the international experience;

Compliance with the requirements of the European Pharmacopoeia.

STORAGE

Keep NEOPHOLIC META in its original packaging at a temperature of up to 25°С and out of the reach of children.

Do not use the product after its expiry date or if the integrity of the packaging is compromised.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

WHAT IS SPINA BIFIDA?

Spina bifida is a serious congenital defect of the spinal cord. This defect affects the spinal cord, the vertebrae, and the muscles and skin forming the spinal cord. It occurs during the formation of the brain and the spinal in the fourth week of the pregnancy, i.e. six weeks after the last menstrual period. In most cases, this happens before women are aware that they are pregnant.

Depending on the severity of spina bifida, the defect can be visible on the back of the baby, but there are no visible anatomic malformations in milder cases. The most severe forms of spina bifida, when the entire spinal canal is open, are incompatible with life. Milder forms may be associated with persistent weakness in the legs, reduced sensitivity, and walking difficulties. These forms often lead do disabilities. The mildest forms of spina bidifa are accompanied with bowel and bladder symptoms, including urine incontinence and impaired control of bowel movements.

Every woman may have a baby with spina bifida, even when there is no data indicating such a defect in the parent’s family history.

Approximately 1 in every 1000 babies is born with spina bifida and, additionally, 1 in every 1000 babies is born with another neural tube defect. Supplementation with 400 μg (0.4 mg) of folic acid for 1 month before getting pregnant and during the first three months of the pregnancy ensures adequate folate levels in the mother’s body and reduces the risk of spina bifida.
